About Emitcert
Emitcert is a service for issuing certificates and diplomas that anyone can check. An organisation designs its certificate, grants it to the people who earned it, and each of them receives a link and a printable copy that a stranger can verify years later without asking anybody.
Who it is for
Schools and colleges, universities, online academies, training centres, and companies that certify their own staff. Anybody who grants a credential and wants it believed.
How a certificate is checked
Every certificate has its own code, printed on the sheet and carried by its QR code. The code opens a public page that says who granted the certificate, to whom, for what and when, and whether it still stands: a certificate the organisation has withdrawn, or one whose validity has run out, says so on that page the moment it happens.
The words on each certificate are signed with a key that belongs to the organisation that granted it. The organisation's public key is published, so a reader who does not want to take our page's word for it can check the signature with any Ed25519 implementation. The same certificate is available as an Open Badges 3.0 credential for software that reads them.
Privacy and trust
A verification page carries a person's name, so it carries no advertising, loads nothing from a third party and is kept out of search engines. Nobody needs an account to check a certificate, and each organisation's records are kept apart from every other's.
